...Must like our Sav­ior be,

In love and pur­ity....

...And in a man­ger lay

Let ev­ery house be bright;...

...And with dis­cre­tion blest;

Of ev­ery grace pos­sessed....

...As un­heed­ed pro­phets taught?

Worth from worth im­mor­tal sprung,...

...Thou hast borne it once for me;

Every tri­al sent by Thee....

...O teach us how to be

In all things like to Thee....

...Light from His throne or lov­ing from His face.

Of that heart’s pride which frowns and will not yield,...

...Simple and pure as Thou art;

May we Thy love-light im­part....

...Be our wis­dom and our guide;

Nearer to our Sav­ior’s side:...

...Such de­fer­ence to Thy Fa­ther’s will,

I would tran­scribe and make them mine....

...Bearing the fruit of the Spir­it,

Thus we are fol­low­ing Je­sus...

...Speak, and let Thy serv­ants hear—

Hear Thy Word with god­ly fear....

...Wilt fill the earth with fear.

And mak­est sin­ners know...

...Within the Jor­dan’s crys­tal flood

And, sin­less, sanc­ti­fies the wave,...

...Search it and know thou art pure;

Then thou shalt be se­cure....

...Thy strength hath been cast,

Thine own till the last;...

...Like a lit­tle child;

Up to man­hood grew...

...Within the Jor­dan’s sac­red flood

That He to whom no sin was known,...

...More tears for His sor­rows, more pain at His grief.

More pur­ity give me, more strength to o’er­come,...
