How Sang the Heavenly Army

How sang the heav’n­ly ar­my

By watch­ing shep­herds seen

When round them lay the si­lent night

On pas­tures wide and green!

The glo­ry of their com­ing

Made moon and star­light dim

And hearts were cheered for­ev­er­more

That heard their bless­èd hymn.

Glory to God in Heav­en

Peace on the earth be­low

For He is born who will re­deem

This world from sin and woe.

Lord of our sal­va­tion

We praise Thee night and morn

That we

too

in this dark­ened life

Have heard that Christ is born!
