I Cannot Change My Heart

I can­not change my sin­ful heart

Nor make it pure and sweet

But I can do what is my part:

Bring it to Je­sus’ feet.

At Je­sus’ bless­èd feet

My soul’s di­vine re­treat

I find the need­ed help each day

To walk the nar­row way.

I can­not ev­en half re­pent

Of deeds that have been wrong

But I can turn ab­out and leave

The path I’ve trav­eled long.

I can­not keep this new­found way

In my own hu­man strength

But I can trust in Him whose pow­er

Will con­quer sin at length.

I can­not bring my life to Christ

By my de­sires alone

But I can tell my wish to God

And bind it to His throne.

Perhaps I may not serve Him long

My days may soon be done;

But I can give each day to Him

With ev­ery ris­ing morn.
